My Thoughts:
"There is no such thing as loneliness. There is only the idea of loneliness"

My dear friend Jenny at The Review Loft and I decided to do a buddy read and tackle a book on our mutual TBR list and after narrowing it down to a few choices we decided on Night Owl based on all the positive reviews.

I wish I could be one of the ones that loved this book, but alas I can’t.  I honestly wanted to DNF, but because Jenny had finished it, it would have not been fair since she suffered through the book.

The story starts off right away with a physical relationship between Matt and Hannah, and it felt like a cheap booty call, not this great love story it has been hyped up to be.   I kept waiting and hoping that after this sexual tension that had built up between Matt and Hannah was released (this is an assumption, because we never see that happen) that it would become this great love story, unfortunately it didn’t.  As I continued to read, the story felt like a series of sex scenes with an under developed story tying them together.  There was no connection between Matt and Hannah and it kind of reminded of bad porn, where it is cheap instead of sexy.

I could not connect with Hannah as I felt she was not relatable and Matt was a complete tool and jerk to both Hannah and others in his life.  He is so far from being a book boyfriend, he would be the book anti-boyfriend.  The only time where the story got good was when something happened to Matt.   I felt like a horrible person and a freak for thinking that book started getting good when Matt hit an all-time low in his life.

When I finished the book, I had many feelings go through me and wondering if something was wrong with me because I did not love the book like everyone else.   Jenny was so kind to assure me that nothing was wrong with me and share with me Book Riot’s post about the seven stages of not loving a book. It made realize it was ok, not to love the book.   I have finally made it stage seven and accepted that I did not love it and will not be reading the rest of the books in the series.

If you are looking for a story with a series of sex scenes with a story in between – then this book is for you.

  1. Well that's disappointing! I hate it when sex over consumes the plot!

  2. I think that sometimes even today I will get all excited when I see a book come out that everyone loves, and I will just one click it, now it seems that e books are alot more costly anywhere from 5.99 to 11.99 or more and that right there has stopped me from getting some of these books some blogs on Facebook have ranted and raved about and then read the book to wonder-hmm are they friends, and just promoted their book for that reason? I appreciate your honesty really! Thank you plus I knew it was spot on as like I said I did not buy any after I read this!

    1. Thank you Loraine - I am glad I helped someone! I honestly wished I had read more reviews than just the people that were raving about it. Thankfully I got it when it was still published indie so I paid less than $5 for it.
